Oviedo on the Park
Oviedo on the Park is a mixed-use project being developed to revitalize an existing Florida small town which has been surrounded by Central Florida growth. The project, currently under construction, will host a new community park surrounded by a town center featuring new residential and retail venues. Dix.Lathrop was responsible for project visioning, branding, signing, hardscape and landscape architectural design.
Working in conjunction with the City of Oviedo and Projects for Public Spaces, Dix.Lathrop facilitated public workshops, presentations, placemaking seminars and completed the conceptual design for this New Downtown Central Park. The proposed six acre park amenities will include a community amphitheater and multi-purpose lawn area, children's play area, fishing/boat dock, bike/walking paths, small performance pavilion, an interactive water feature area and lakefront promenade.
The final park design will evolve by incorporating low impact design (LID) principles. Stormwater will be utilized for irrigation and a rain garden system. Plant material selections will integrate native and drought tolerant species. Special emphasis and educational opportunities will be given to highlighting existing and restored native plant communities. Several demonstration gardens such as native/sustainable perennials, Florida xeric species, medicinal, herbaceous, and Florida ornamental/vegetables will also be incorporated to promote sustainable design and encourage community involvement.
